85W-140 hypoid EP gear oil for heavily loaded axles and gear units with very high load capacity and strong high-temperature reserve.
85W-140 Hypoid EP is a robust multigrade gear oil for highly loaded hypoid final drives and other transmission applications where extreme pressure resistance and stable high-temperature viscosity are critical. It is designed for vehicles and machinery operating under severe conditions that require a higher oil reserve.
The EP formulation ensures reliable absorption of shock loads. Especially in older or heavily stressed axle applications, this often makes the decisive difference compared to lighter gear oils.
For suitable axles and transmissions, 85W-140 is therefore a durable specialty solution for heavy loads and high temperatures.
Suitable for heavily loaded hypoid final drives, spur and bevel gearboxes, manual transmissions and steering gears where API GL-5, MIL-L/MIL-PRF-2105D or comparable heavy-duty requirements are specified.
When is 85W-140 more suitable than 80W-90?
When the application requires significantly higher hot viscosity and load reserve.
Is this oil intended for modern passenger car manual transmissions?
Generally no. It is primarily designed for heavy-duty axle and transmission applications.
What does EP mean in this gear oil?
Extreme Pressure, meaning an additive system designed for high surface pressure.
